I really like your use of the discarded vegetable oil cans as planters, but how did you manage to get the tops off them? I tried to do the same to one of them but was defeated by a lack of tools up to the job... Also, loved the street gardening on Farleigh Road! Have my eye on a derelict patch on my street (round the corner from you) that I might subject to similar treatment...

Chutney, maybe, why not cider. Crazy to think that there are these trees just growing, producing apples and then not getting picked. The apple are just waste unless someone comes around and does something with them. It is unfortunate what has happened to society. I am glad to hear you are doing the right thing. I work at a place that goes around, picks apples, makes cider (soft), give half to homeless shelters and sells the other (which keeps the program going). It is a pretty cool idea, but really shows the true potential our communities have in them.

Food for everyone, edible landscapes. Keep up the good work.

Hi there!V

Very interesting to read how you go over the problem of the pond liner showing around the edge of your pond. We are based at Tottenham Hale and have precisely the same problem. See your web page: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://hackneypermaculture.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/cluadia-planting.jpg&imgrefurl=http://hackneypermaculture.org.uk/2009/04/11/mulching-the-edge-of-a-pond/&usg=__luhIbgENShgI-nZNZ3xsFNv5Hh8=&h=600&w=800&sz=375&hl=en&start=202&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=efxpo-8oGSnnXM:&tbnh=107&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpond%2Bplanting%26start%3D198%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26ndsp%3D18%26tbs%3Disch:1 Sadly, some of the photos on that page aren't showing and I'd love to see them. We've built a small pond, primarily a place for bats to drink, (as we're a bat group), but it looks really poor as the liner is showing around the edge. I would love to see your photos of how you got around the problem of showing liner, by mulched the edge. Could you perhaps send me some photos, please?

Many thanks
